Turning AI Knowledge into African Innovation

At Tensorview, we believe Africa’s AI future will be shaped not only by how we adopt artificial intelligence, but by how effectively we develop the people capable of building with it.

This vision came to life through a hands-on Artificial Intelligence training held at the U.S. Embassy in Lilongwe, organized by the AI & Innovation Hub, where young people in Malawi had the opportunity to move beyond AI theory and develop practical solutions to real-world problems.

The training introduced participants to the foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, covering algorithms including Linear Regression, Decision Trees, K-Nearest Neighbours, Random Forests and Neural Networks. The programme then progressed into AI Ethics, Generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and AI Agents.

The emphasis throughout the training was on building.

Participants developed AI-powered applications addressing areas such as health, diplomacy, fashion, sports and Malawian population statistics. These projects demonstrated how emerging technologies can be adapted to local contexts and used to address challenges that matter to African communities.

One of the projects went further by combining multiple AI capabilities into an AI Agent for Forex and commodity market analysis. The agent was designed to retrieve live information from the internet, analyse differences between bank and black-market exchange rates, identify potential places to buy or sell commodities, and assess the potential market fit of those commodities.

For Tensorview, this represents an important part of our broader mission: helping create an environment where African young people are not simply consumers of emerging technologies, but builders, experimenters and innovators.

Africa has a growing generation of talented young people capable of contributing to the global AI ecosystem. Creating opportunities for them to gain practical experience, experiment with emerging technologies and solve problems within their own communities is essential to building a sustainable African technology ecosystem.

Through our work at Tensorview, alongside initiatives such as the AI & Innovation Hub, we remain committed to expanding access to practical AI education and creating pathways for African talent to turn ideas into technology.

The future of AI in Africa will be defined by what we build with it.

And that future starts with empowering the people who will build it.
