FROM FOOD TO TRADE: POWERING MALAWI’S AGRICULTURAL TRANSFORMATION WITH AI
Our CEO Patrick Nyasulu, had the opportunity to attend the National Agrifood Systems Investment Symposium 2026, where the conversation centered on a critical question for Malawi: how do we transform from food systems into trade systems? The discussions highlighted the importance of moving beyond production alone and strengthening the entire agricultural value chain, from irrigation and mechanisation to processing, private-sector investment, exports and resilient value chains.
One point that stood out to him was the need to address the structural challenges limiting agricultural productivity, particularly low irrigation capacity, limited mechanisation and low domestic production. At the same time, there is a significant opportunity to unlock private-sector investment, strengthen agro-processing and leverage emerging technologies to create more productive and commercially viable agricultural systems.
At Tensorview in partnership with Solutions Inc Mw we are already working at this intersection of agriculture and technology through our Farmers Digital Assistant Project at Ukwe Agricultural Station. We are using Artificial Intelligence to give farmers access to practical agricultural intelligence, including crop disease identification, farming guidance and weather information through a digital assistant designed around local needs.
Our goal is simple: put powerful technology in the hands of farmers and use AI to improve productivity, decision-making and ultimately livelihoods. The transformation of Malawi's agricultural sector will require investment, infrastructure and policy, but it will also require innovation. AI can be part of that transformation.
